What is Botox Cosmetic?
A Botulinum toxin type A injection, also known under the brand name Botox®, is the most popular cosmetic treatment nationwide. In our New York City practice, Dr. Kestin helps patients fight stubborn wrinkles with Botox, which restores their naturally younger appearance, providing an effective alternative to invasive surgical techniques. Extensively researched Botox has been approved to temporarily improve crow’s feet and severe frown lines between the brows; as well as forehead lines, “bunny” or “wolf” lines on the nose, fine lines of the lip and neck, chin “dimpling”, and many other uses.
Botulinum toxin type A is an injectable neurotmodulator utilized to smooth wrinkles formed by repetitive facial movements, such as smiling, frowning, squinting and other facial expressions we make on a daily basis. Neuromodulators work by temporarily blocking the nerve impulses to these overworked muscles, causing them to relax and soften.
The Treatment
Botox injections are non-surgical and performed by Dr. Kestin during an in-office visit. Your treatment will begin with an initial consultation that prepares you for your upcoming procedure. Knowing what to expect and being prepared for your treatment will ensure only exceptional results that stay true to your unique appearance.Each treatment session varies from patient to patient depending on depth of wrinkles and how much of a change you desire. For the crow’s feet area, Dr. Kestin administers precise injections at three areas of the muscle framing the side of the eye. For frown lines, Dr. Kestin targets the muscles in your forehead with injections to ensure excellent results. About a week after your treatment, you will see real, noticeable improvements of your unsightly lines, which will last about 3-4 months.
The entire injection process should take about 10 minutes and requires minimal to no downtime, making it the perfect quick-stop treatment for radiant results. Although most patients tolerate the pinch of a Botox injection, Dr. Kestin will happily numb the treatment area with ice or a topical numbing cream if you are concerned about the discomfort of injections.
